Overview

Overview

I am the Low Carbon Built Environment (LCBE) theme leader within the recently established Cardiff University (CU) Net Zero Innovation Institute and the co-director of the Centre for LCBE in WSA. I am a chartered energy engineer investigating low carbon systems for the built environment. Emerging markets have been adopting technologies much more rapidly in recent decades; architectural science should now lead building integration in practice by providing guidance and robust performance evaluation evidence. I run feasibility tests and procure innovative technologies to test in real life buildings. I evaluate the performance of the buildings and the systems with a focus on occupants' comfort, gathering data with the highest levels of integrity and external market credibility. My outputs aim to assist the market, the developers and the policy makers to choose appropriate technologies and methods to make buildings more sustainable.

Biography

Short Biography

I am lecturer in Architectural Science at the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA), Cardiff University. I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). I hold a BSc in Automation Engineering, an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems and Technology and a PhD in Building Integrated Solar Thermal Air Collectors in Cardiff University.

I work in the renewable and low carbon energy sector specialised in the integration and performance evaluation of innovative technologies in new builds and retrofits. My expertise lies in modelling, monitoring, instrumentation, data analysis and framework development. I have tested several conventional and innovative systems in real life buildings, developing evaluation and integration protocols. My work has been published and awarded nationally and internationally. Since 2012, I have been working as a researcher in WSA architectural science team with further teaching responsibilities. Prior to becoming a Cardiff University researcher, I was a measuring process developer in the industry and in research institutes such as the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas.

I am the Principal Investigation in the Digital Twin research Grant (2022) and  the Passivhaus performance evaluation grant (2022). I am a Co-investigator in the Monitoring Building Performance Project sponsored by Swansea Council (Jan21-Dec25). I sit in a number of internal and external committees, e.g. Ethics Committee, Health and Safety Committee, Cardiff University Research Staff Association, Energies journal reviewers, IET technical boards.
