Centre for Research in the Built Environment (CRiBE)
The Centre for Research in the Built Environment is part of the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University. Its primary aim is the effective and sustainable design, construction and operation of the built environment.
CRiBE is recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Welsh Assembly Government. The Centres are a network of accredited research groups, which deliver world-class science and technology to companies in science and technology to companies in the UK and across the world.
For over 20 years, CRiBE has pioneered research and established an international reputation in the fields of environmental design, energy efficiency of buildings and urban sustainable development. The Centre comprises an established, multi-disciplinary group of environmental design specialists including architects, engineers, physicists, planners and social and environmental scientists.
This brings a uniquely holistic inter-disciplinary approach to effective and sustainable design, construction and operation of the built environment.
In more recent years, CRiBE has expanded its areas of expertise to include the implementation of water, waste and environmental management systems and research into transport and public health. CRiBE plays a major role in informing not only the future of building design, but also ain defining and developing the whole area of urban sustainability.
