The commitment of staff within the College has been recognised at the University’s Celebrating Excellence Awards.

In their second year, the awards represent the University’s appreciation of staff who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution, and who are recognised for excellence in their work.

Professor Gary Baxter, Head of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and previously acting Head of the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences won the Outstanding Contribution to Leadership award. Gary was commended by the judges for the impact he has had in helping both Schools’ progress and for inspiring and motivating staff.

Matthew Williamson, School Manager in Healthcare Sciences won the award for Sustained Excellence in recognition of his significant contribution to the overall management of the School and its staff.

Professor Andrew Quantock from the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences was presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to the University’s International Activities in recognition of the variety of research and educational links he has managed.

Other finalists on the night included Professor Bernard Moxham (School of Biosciences) and Professor Rachel North (School of Optometry and Vision Sciences) in the Lifetime Achievement category; Dr Elspeth Webb, School of Medicine in the Outstanding Contribution to the Community or Environment category; the School of Biosciences’ Research on Infection and Parasites in Ecological Systems team in the Excellence in Research category; Staff Members of the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Outstanding Contribution to the University’s International Activities for the Taylor’s University Collaboration; the Undergraduate Admissions Team in the School of Healthcare Sciences in the Outstanding Support to the University category and the Healthy Places, Healthy People interdisciplinary group including Sally Anstey and Richard Day from the School of Healthcare Sciences, Sion Coulman, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Lorraine Whitmarsh from the School of Psychology.
