Click <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/files\/2018\/01\/Final-version-19-12-17-1130am-nas_leagal-guide_english.pdf\">HERE<\/a> to download a copy in English or <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/files\/2018\/01\/Legal-Guide-Cymraeg.pdf\">HERE<\/a> for a copy in Welsh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>General information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An adoption order will only be made by a court where a child has been placed for adoption by an adoption agency with the parents&#8217; full consent, or after a placement order has been made by a court.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Regulations and Rules\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/secondary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regulations<\/a> and <a title=\"Guidance\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guidance<\/a> about adoption are based on the <a title=\"Acts\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/legislation\/primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adoption and Children Act 2002<\/a>.\u00a0 However, since that Act came into force, law and policy on adoption between England and Wales has increasingly diverged.<\/p>\n<p>Information about all aspects of adoption in Wales is available from the <a title=\"external site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adoptcymru.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Adoption Service.<\/a> Their services include the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walesadoptionregister.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wales Adoption Register<\/a> which is a secure database identifying links to facilitate matching of children requiring adoptive placements with adopters across Wales.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"external site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.baaf.org.uk\/wales\/cymraeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAAF Cymru<\/a> had a wide range of resources on adoption and fostering, but ceased to operate in July 2015. Its training and consultancy services have continued as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adoptionwales.org\/association-menu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AFA Cymru<\/a>. Their legal consultant is available for advice to members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adoptionuk.org\/Wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adoption UK<\/a> is a membership organisation which offers support and advice to adoptive families and prospective adopters.<\/p>\n<p>Following implementation of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, assessment and provision of\u00a0 support for children who have been adopted, and their carers, is included in Parts 3 and 4 of the Act, and associated Codes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JANUARY 2018 A legal guide for adopters, written by Sarah Coldrick, AFA Cymru and Julie Doughty, Cardiff University.
