6565BR – Senior Technician
The School of Psychology is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join our technical team in supporting experimental research across the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC). CUBRIC is a world-leading imaging and research centre of Cardiff University featuring four MRI scanners, a MEG system, EEG & TMS & tDCS labs.
Based mainly in a small prototype workshop, you will provide technical support to experimental MRI, MEG, TMS, EEG and sleep laboratory research activities in CUBRIC, working closely with academic and technical staff as well as students, in the design development, construction, maintenance, use and troubleshooting of experimental apparatus. Due to the complexity of the research equipment at CUBRIC, a significant part of the post will involve providing a range of technical support services to facilitate existing research and to enhance the centre’s research activities.
You will be working in an interesting and rewarding environment, using your initiative and deploying a wide range of skills: from general engineering, such as milling, fitting & lathe work, design and debugging, 3D printing and working with cryogens and medical gases. Your tasks will include the repair, maintenance, and modification of various pieces of equipment, as well as the development, production, and commissioning of bespoke, innovative items in a small but well-equipped prototyping workshop. You should already have skills in some of the following: electronics, machining, soldering; and a willingness and aptitude to learn more (training for additional skills will be provided).
