IGNITE

Ever thought you could make a difference with your ideas? Have you ever thought of starting your own business? | Do you want to learn new skills to be more innovative and creative?

Improve your employability and make yourself stand out from the crowd.

Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Ignite is an intensive 4 day programme designed to take you on a journey towards becoming enterprising in your chosen career; be this a business start-up, a social enterprise, the voluntary sector or within an established organisation.

You’ll be put into teams with students from Cardiff University and from other Universities, and you will work together throughout the week to develop your ideas, build your skills and use your innovative skills.

The week ends with an ‘Apprentice’ style challenge where each team is given seed funding and one day to use that money to make a profit. As long as it’s legal – how you do this is up to you!

Ignite will:

  • Develop your innovative and enterprising potential
  • Unleash creativity
  • Seize opportunities
  • Help you to make your ideas a reality

You’ll be put into teams who will work together throughout the week to develop your ideas, build your skills and use your innovative skills.

What will I be doing?

Each day will involve a number of team-based activities, where you will have a chance to develop your skills. You will develop your knowledge and ability with enterprise skills through the week. There will be very little lecture style learning, the week is all about getting hands on and learning as you participate in activities.

Is Ignite for me?

Ignite is not specifically about starting a business, but aims to develop enterprising individuals, people who can spot opportunities or problems and come up with an innovative way to change things for the better! This might be within your own venture or as an employee of an organisation.

If you want to show how you can stand out from the crowd and develop skills to make you more employable, then Ignite can help you to achieve this. Employers are increasingly looking for graduates with commercial awareness and practical experience of working in teams. Ignite will get you thinking about the skills and knowledge you already have and give you the change to put them into practice in a practical enterprise challenge. It’ll give you plenty to include on your CV or talk about in job interviews.

This Cardiff University Enterprise activity is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Big Ideas Wales campaign. The aim of which is to equip young people with entrepreneurial skills and attitudes to help them realise their potential.
