Everyone is welcome to join us at the Centre for Lifelong Learning on Senghennydd Road (next to the Sherman Theatre) on

Wednesday 10 September from 12.00 noon to 2.00pm and 5.00pm to 7.00pm

Saturday 13 September from 11.00am to 1.00pm

We are also offering FREE computer sessions at our Open Days this year. All sessions are held in Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning.

 Wednesday 10th September 2014

12:10 – 12:55 Introduction to C Programming – Dr Mike Evans

Room E2.05

Many programming languages such as C++, Java, Perl and Awk are based on the language. Topics covered in this introduction include data types, operators, expressions and use of conditional and iterative control statements.  This module is offered as a Free Standing Module for undergraduate students.

18:10 – 18:55 Introduction to UNIX/Linux System Administration – Dr Mike Evans

Room E0.09A

This session will introduce the UNIX/LINUX operating system. Topics covered include the file hierarchy, UNIX commands, redirection of input and output and piping.

11:10 – 11:55 Introduction to UNIX/Linux System Administration – Dr Mike Evans

Room E2.05

Linux is becoming more widely used operating system as a result of the availability of many free applications.  Topics covered in this course include discussion of the file hierarchy, use of essential UNIX commands, phases of shell interpretation, using grep to select records, the sed editor and the sort command. This module is offered as a Free Standing Module for undergraduate students.

12:10 – 13:00 Introduction to Computer Forensics – Mike Daley

Room E2.05

An introduction to the ‘hands-on’ approach to learning forensic computing techniques using open-source and commercial forensic tools.
