Cardiff Science Festival 2014 has lots of events taking place in Cardiff Bay on Saturday 19th July for all the family. Below are some highlights but full details of all the events taking place on Saturday and all through the week are on the Cardiff Science Festival website.

11.30am – BSA Presents: Bloodhound Supersonic Car: This is a great opportunity to hear about a unique engineering adventure, to find out about the history behind the ultimate, unlimited racing car, BLOODHOUND SSC. CSF - Blue seas crop1.30pm – Blue Seas Research: Predators and Prey in an ever-changing system: Join oceanographer Jonathan Houghton to unravel the behaviour and threats faced by top predators at sea. Venue: Pierhead Building (Upstairs). Tickets free: to book please click here.

2pm – BBC’s popular ‘Gastronaut’ Stefan Gates will be appearing at Cardiff Science Festival on Saturday 19th July. His show will be packed full of inspiring, explosive science, and wild food adventures. Stefan will blow apart the preconceptions that people have about food, to make people think again about what they put in their mouths and to encourage them to become more adventurous eaters. His show is funny, outrageous and fascinating but with a solid basis of food chemistry, sustainability and nutrition. Venue: Wales Millennium Centre (Seligman Room). 2.30pm – IET Lecture: Bug-Busting – New microwave assisted approaches for detecting antibiotic resistant bacteria: Learn about some of the characteristics that make bacteria resistant and Cardiff University’s efforts to break open dangerous bacteria to release their DNA using a new microwaving technology. CSF - Materials art crop4pm – Ruth McLees: Materials Invention Art: Artist Ruth McLees will talk about her new project – her aim is to discover an unexpected aesthetic and untapped potential within resins (and other industrial materials) through a process of experimentation, trial and error.
