The Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK (Islam-UK Centre) runs a free annual public lecture series each Spring. Speakers come from across the UK and overseas to give details of the latest research available.
Speaker: Riyaz Timol
Riyaz Timol has just completed a PhD at the Islam- UK Centre, Cardiff University, and supervises undergraduate dissertations in Islamic Studies at Manchester University. His disciplinary approach is within the sociology of religion and his research interests include ethnographic methodology, intergenerational transmission of Islam in Britain and the relationship of Islam with modernity. He has taught courses on religion, theology and qualitative research methods at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His current work seeks to map the way contemporary accounts of Islamic revival intersect with secularisation theory in European contexts. Riyaz is also a co-founder of thinkBRITE Services, an organisation set up to enhance public understanding of Islam in contemporary Britain.
