I am a 2nd year PhD student in Language and Communication. My research concerns the study of Edwardian book inscriptions (1901-1914) as a way of understanding book ownership, reading practices and book culture in Edwardian Britain.

I am also interested in the exploration of other 'alternative' visual cultures from this period of history such as the language of stamps, the suffragettes defacing of coins, cigarette cards and photographs of the monarchy.

I work in sociolinguistics, the subfield of linguistics which examines language in society. Broadly speaking, sociolinguistics tries to establish how factors such as geographical origin, age, gender, social class affect the way people speak and how (and why) we judge different accents and dialects.
