  • Professor Ian Hargreaves

    Most of my career has been spent in professional journalism, but since 2010 I have been Professor of Digital Economy.

    My work involves research into the economic and other impacts of the digital communications technologies associated with the Internet. The central focus of this research is the creative digital economy - covering areas such as music, television, film and publishing (including journalism). I have also developed experience of the complex issues surrounding intellectual property in this context, having conducted a review of policy for the UK Government in 2010/11.

  • Dr Jenny Kidd

    I am an experienced and research active academic lecturing across the fields of digital media, the cultural and creative industries.

    I work in the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies at Cardiff University. I have previously been a Lecturer in Cultural Policy at City University London (2008-2012), and before that, a Research Associate in the School of Drama at Manchester University (on the AHRC Performance, Learning and Heritage Project with Professor Anthony Jackson, 2005-2008).

    I hold a PhD from Cardiff University which makes an in-depth critical appraisal of the BBC Wales Digital Storytelling initiative Capture Wales).

    At Cardiff University, I teach on the BA in Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, leading on the core first year module Representations (Media and Cultural Theory), and on elective modules in digital culture, and creative/cultural industries.

    I work closely with cultural and creative professionals in her capacity as researcher and consultant, most recently as part of the Challenging History network. I am currently working on projects with: Birmingham University, Leicester University, Sheffield University, Historic Royal Palaces, The Tower of London, National Museums Northern Ireland, National Trust Scotland, National Maritime Museum, London, the Royal Armouries, Imperial War Museums, Buckfast Abbey, the Cardiff Story, the Cultural Learning Alliance, The National Library of Wales, Art and Memory, the Digital Engagement Network and The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry.

My specialists areas centre on newspaper production, web journalism and digital development in newsrooms - from using social media and online communities to understanding the importance of data and computing techniques.
