I am an American-born composer of contemporary classical music, and have written works to commission for everything from instrumental and vocal solos to large ensembles, symphony orchestra, opera, and music for film and dance.
Recent premieres include Game of Attrition for the New York Philharmonic, Insects in Amber for the Cheltenham Festival, and Moler for the Seattle Symphony.
About my research
My music takes its impetus from rich sources including military strategy, Darwinian evolution, and game theory. Performers include the Tokyo Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, New York City Opera VOX, ICE, Psappha, Lontano, the New Juilliard Ensemble, the Schubert Ensemble, and many others.
Awards and recognition
Awards include the Takemitsu Prize for Orchestral Composition, American Academy of Arts and Letters Charles Ives Fellowship
Classical Recording Foundation Composer of the Year, PRS New Music Biennial Commission, among many others.
Portrait concerts include the Crush Room at the Royal Opera House, London, Miller Theatre at Columbia University, New York City, and the Yellow Barn Festival in Vermont, USA.
