I am a lecturer in international relations with expertise in international security. Specifically my research deals with African security politics as well as maritime security and contemporary maritime piracy.

A further specialization is the politics of the United Nations in these areas. I have published 40+ papers on these subject areas.

About my research

In my major current research project I investigate the global governance of maritime piracy with special emphasis on the case of Somalia and the consequences of piracy for ocean governance and maritime security.

I investigate how military, development assistance, statebuilding or regional cooperation can improve stability and address the challenges of maritime insecurity.
