About my research
My research centres on the changes in musical performance-style from the late 18th to the 20th centuries with a focus on the piano and its repertoire, and on the works of composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, Alkan and Busoni.
Awards and recognition
Most recent book, "After the Golden Age: Romantic Pianism and Modern Performance" (Oxford University Press) was a CHOICE "Outstanding Academic Title" in the US, the recipient of an ASRC Certificate of Merit, and a Daily Telegraph Book of the Year.

Author of articles on music and musicians for the New York Times and other newspapers/journals.
