“On April 8, 2014, support and updates for Windows XP will no longer be available. Don’t let your PC go unprotected.”
As the Microsoft announcement above explains, on April 8th support and updates for Windows XP will cease. The OS is 12 years old and is being retired.
From Saturday 8th March the above pop-up started appearing on Home and Pro versions of XP. The ‘Click Here’ link would have taken you to this page to check your options (upgrade to a newer version of windows or upgrade your PC if it cannot run a newer version).
If you don’t know what operating system you are running you can click here to have Microsoft check your PC and tell you.
It is strongly advised that you do not continue to run an XP machine past April 8th. As Microsoft explain in the below paragraph taken from their site
“An unsupported version of Windows will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update. These include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information. Windows Update also installs the latest software updates to improve the reliability of Windows—new drivers for your hardware and more.”
