The School of Modern Languages and the School of Welsh are collaborating to provide an interdisciplinary conference titled, ‘The Translator: Competence, Credentials, Creativity’, to be held on the 27th May 2014. Having recently – and very happily – received funding from the University Graduate College, the team are now busy organising the details of the conference.
The organisers – Dia Borresly, Lisi Liang, Esther Liu, Sara Orwig, Dr Dorota Goluch – include students who studied for their undergraduate degrees at Cardiff University, those who are experiencing the UK and Wales for the first time through their postgraduate studies here, as well as translation lecturer Dr Dorota Goluch, whose research interests focus on Translation Studies and post-colonial perspectives. The keynote speaker is Professor Theo Hermans (UCL) and the conference will include the presentation of a wide range of themes throughout the day such as technology, language competence, bilingualism, migration, and even the meditation of communication between fields of knowledge.
The organising committee are pleased to welcome presentations in both Welsh and English and hope to provide simultaneous interpretation where required. The conference website has further details, including the Call for Papers. For any queries please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
