Setup a BlackBerry 10 Device

  1. Swipe down from the top of the device to access the System Settings menu.
  2. Select  Accounts.
  3. Select  Add Account.
  4. Select  Email, Calendar and Contacts.
  5. Select  Advanced (note on the Z10, if the virtual keyboard is displayed, remove this by swiping down with two fingers).
  6. In the Advanced Setup, select Microsoft Exchange Active Sync.
  7. Enter a Description if required.
  8. Under username enter your e-mail address.
  9. Under Email address  enter your e-mail address.
  10. Under Password, enter your standard University Password.
  11. Under Server Address Enter  “”.
  12. Select Next.
  13. The device will check the configuration settings and if successful, will then display the Sync Settings.
  14. Select required Synchronisation settings and then select Done.
  15. Select the Back Arrow to return to System Settings or close the window by swiping up and closing the window.

Setup a BlackBerry Device OS 7 and below

For users that have NOT been previously connected to the University BlackBerry service, you will need to contact the Service Desk to request that your account is setup to access your BlackBerry with Office 365. You will not be able to access the service until this is done. Contact the Service Desk using one of the following methods and explain that you have a personal BlackBerry that you would like to connect to the BlackBerry Express Service. You must provide your full name, University email address, username and state if you are a member of staff or student:

Once you have confirmation from the service desk, that your account has been configured proceed to step 5 below.

For existing BlackBerry users, prior to activation to the new BlackBerry enterprise service, we recommend that you back up your device from the BlackBerry Webdesktop Console at

For University owned devices:

PLEASE NOTE: Internet Explorer is required for full functionality of the Back Up process.

For users that have not been previously connected to a BlackBerry server, go to step 6 below.
Non Admin users will also need to install “BlackBerry Web components” from CardiffApps > Utilities.

  1. After login connect your device via a USB cable.
  2. Select the option to “Backup and Restore”.
  3. Select Backup to do a complete backup of the device.
  4. Once backup is complete perform a security Wipe on the device.
    1. options/security options/security wipe.
    2. select the Emails, Contacts, etc. “tick box” ONLY and then Enter the word “blackberry” to  confirm device wipe.
  5. Logout from the Webdesktop Console and go to the following URL:
  6. Select create an Enterprise Activation.
  7. Enter a one time activation code.
  8. For Corporate BlackBerry Devices:
    1. On the device select, Options > Advanced > Enterprise Activation.
    2. Enter the email address and the one time activation password.
    3. Go to step 10.
  9. For Private BlackBerry Devices you will need to download the Enterprise Activation app from BlackBerry App World:
    2. Once installed, on the device select, Options > Advanced > Enterprise Activation.
    3. Enter the email address and the one time activation password.
    4. Select the activate option.
  10. Once the activation is complete, select the Backup and Restore options and then Advanced for selecting specific components or Restore a device for all items.
