{"id":8466,"date":"2016-10-11T10:16:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T09:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/piracylessons\/?p=8466"},"modified":"2016-10-28T10:20:58","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T09:20:58","slug":"wg1-meeting-announced-for-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/piracylessons\/2016\/10\/11\/wg1-meeting-announced-for-november\/","title":{"rendered":"WG1 meeting announced for November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today it was announced that a meeting of the Working Group 1 will be held in Dar Es Salaam on November\u00a016th.<\/p>\n<p>At the 19<sup>th<\/sup> Plenary of the UN\u2019s Contact Group for Piracy off the Coast of Somalia (CGPCS) held in Victoria, Republic of Seychelles early this year, it was agreed to form a Working Group focussing upon the Indian Ocean region (outside of Somalia). This Group was charged with identifying the priorities and issues for regional maritime security capacity building. The Group will be co-chaired by Kenya and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in line with agreed reconfiguration of Working Group 1 (WG1) to enable greater responsibility and ownership for capacity building by the region. The UK will be\u00a0providing support to Kenya and the IOC\u00a0in the initial stages of this Group, as part of the transition programme \u00a0to relinquish \u00a0its role as co-chair of WG1 by 31\/12\/16. The first meeting of the Group will take place on Wednesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> November in Dar Es Salaam.
