Lies, Damned Lies & Statistics introduces second year students to the use of statistical evidence in the media and promotes the critical consumption of evidence across social science disciplines.
This module was developed by the University of Auckland, and has been a huge success with students from a wide range of disciplines. It’s going live in September 2014 and will be delivered as part of the BSc in Social Analytics from September 2015.
Students will be led through the common errors in presentation and interpretation of statistical analysis and encouraged to apply this knowledge in a group work environment. The module will draw upon material from academic journals, government reports and popular media which students will then deconstruct to identify any weaknesses and unsubstantiated claims.
