Cardiff Q-Step has developed several partnerships with a consortium of schools and colleges in South Wales, the Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education (RSSCSE), Agored Cmyru (AC) and the Welsh Joint Educational Consortium (WJEC) to develop and teach a QCF level-3 award (AS Level equivalent) in Social Analytics. The the course will be developed and delivered by Cardiff University staff, the WJEC, the RSSCSE, schools teachers and FE lecturers. In addition, CPD programmes will be developed to provide training for school teachers and FE lecturers in delivering this new course.
The course will teach students the importance and sources of social data, how to design, implement and analyse a simple survey and how to use simple descriptive statistics. It will be validated by WJEC and students with this qualification may be given an enhanced offer (contextual) for entry onto BSc Social Analytics at Cardiff.
These initiatives will strengthen links with local schools and FE colleges, as well as providing progression pathways for students to continue their studies into HE.
