{"id":352,"date":"2014-05-07T19:11:13","date_gmt":"2014-05-07T19:11:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sharewithschools.wordpress.com\/?p=352"},"modified":"2016-05-19T13:46:13","modified_gmt":"2016-05-19T13:46:13","slug":"future-scholars-event-07-mar-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/share-with-schools\/future-scholars-event-07-mar-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Future Scholars event (07 Mar 2014)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today members of the SHARE with Schools team ran the School of History, Archaeology and Religion&#8217;s (SHARE) pupil sessions for the <strong>Future Scholars Award\u00a0<\/strong>event at Cardiff University today.\u00a0These are events designed to typically provide, amongst other things:<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Taster lectures or seminars, designed to catch the interest of high achieving year 9 students and show what university level study involves.<\/li>\n<li>The opportunity to meet current students and staff.<\/li>\n<li>Tours of the university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000\">Pupils will gain a real life experience of what studying at university is like. It is hoped that this will encourage them to aim high to achieve the best grades possible, and to seriously consider applying to university \u2013 including selective universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:right\">Source: &lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/futurescholarawards\/\">https:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/futurescholarawards\/<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We agreed to run two parallel sessions, of about 25 pupils each, using our hands-on Roman and C19th <strong>archaeology collections<\/strong> to discuss what sorts of things we do here at research-intensive SHARE.
