KU Leuven partnership

22 September 2014

The signing of a co-operation agreement with the University of Leuven on 22 September was a landmark for Cardiff University. The partnership will boost research income, create new research collaborations and offer more opportunities for students and staff to study and teach abroad. I travelled to Belgium with fellow UEB members Professor Hywel Thomas and Professor Patricia Price and we were all struck by the warmth of our new colleagues and the significance they attached to the occasion. We were included in ceremonies to mark the start of the academic year, watching academics and students process through the town in full academic dress. Professor Danny Pieters, Leuven’s Vice Rector for Internationalisation who has led on the partnership, will lead a Leuven delegation to Cardiff in the new year and I very much look forward to welcoming our new colleagues.
