Meeting updates

  • It was noted that the University had won two awards in last week’s Times Higher Education awards, for the Phoenix Project and the CAER Hillfort Project.
  • The formal announcement had been made of the award to the University of a Queen’s Anniversary Prize for the Down’s Syndrome Vision Research Unit.
  • It was noted that that the University had won two awards in the CIPR Pride Awards Cymru, for Cardiff Connect and #Social7.
  • It was noted that the REF Committee had met to review Rolling REF II and progress was being made within the Colleges.
  • UEB received a paper which outlined the eleven main KPIs for The Way Forward 2018-23 and the sub-strategy indicators. Discussion took place on a number of the indicators and it was agreed that a revised paper should come back to UEB in January 2018, to be considered at the same time as the action plans.
  • UEB received the Consultation on the Review of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education and agreed to endorse the University’s draft response and recommend its submission to the QAA.
  • UEB received a paper on Cardiff University’s Integrated Cancer Research Programme 2017-22 Statement of Intent. It was noted that the statement had involved input from across the University’s cancer research community and was intended to bring together a direction of travel.  It was agreed to endorse the vision, ambition and direction of travel.
  • UEB received a paper on LearnPlus opt-out implementation policy. The paper outlined action taken and further action required to enable full implementation of the LearnPlus Opt-Out Policy from 2018/19 whereby all lectures and other suitable teaching activities would be recorded via the LearnPlus system unless otherwise agreed and communicated to students.  It was agreed to delegate authority to the PVC Student Experience and Academic Standards to oversee the implementation of the policy across all Schools in time for the start of the 2018/19 academic year, working closely with College PVCs and College Deans.
