{"id":204,"date":"2015-03-15T16:52:36","date_gmt":"2015-03-15T16:52:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/?page_id=204"},"modified":"2019-12-19T14:06:54","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T14:06:54","slug":"children-and-young-people","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/other-resources\/children-and-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Children and young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"external site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lawstuff.org.uk\/\">Law Stuff <\/a>website is full of advice and information for young people on their legal rights and education, housing, crime etc. There are specific answers to the question &#8216;At what age can I&#8230;.?&#8217;<\/p>\n<h3>Courts<\/h3>\n<p>This \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/childrens-social-care-law\/files\/2015\/03\/fjypb_glossary.pdf\">Family Justice Young People&#8217;s Board glossary\u00a0 <\/a>explains words that are used in the Family Court.<\/p>\n<p>Information and advice about the criminal courts is available from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yjlc.uk\/\">the Youth Justice Legal Centre <\/a>which covers Wales and Engalnd.<\/p>\n<h3>Rights, support and participation<\/h3>\n<p>There is a lot of information on children&#8217;s rights in Wales on this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncrcletsgetitright.co.uk\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Children&#8217;s Rights Wales<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>The Children&#8217;s Commissioner for Wales Act 2001 sets out the Commissioner\u2019s functions,\u00a0 originally established under the Care Standards Act. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/2001\/18\/pdfs\/ukpga_20010018_en.pdf\">The Children\u2019s Commissioner for Wales Regulations 2001 <\/a>\u00a0No. 2787 (W. 237) apply.<\/p>\n<p>Children and young people can contact the Children&#8217;s Commissioner on free phonelines or texts &#8211; details\u00a0<a title=\"external site\" href=\"https:\/\/www.childcomwales.org.uk\/en\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here. <\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Advocacy<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"external site\" href=\"http:\/\/meiccymru.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meic<\/a> is a helpline for young people needing advocacy services.
