{"id":326,"date":"2023-07-20T10:12:20","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T09:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/education-development-toolkit\/?page_id=326"},"modified":"2026-03-02T09:24:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T09:24:33","slug":"graduate-attributes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/education-development-toolkit\/theme-overview\/employability\/graduate-attributes\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Attributes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Graduate Attributes have been:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Commissioned by Pro Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Experience as part of the\u00a0development of the Principles of Programme Design.<\/li>\n<li>Developed by Student Experience Strategy Group (SESG) working group, based on the attributes for the Cardiff Award, updated in consultation with Schools.<\/li>\n<li>Incorporated into the Institutional Expectations for programme structure, design and delivery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When developing new programmes and making changes to existing programmes, Schools will be required to show how they have integrated opportunities for students to develop these attributes through the design of their programmes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"well\">Learn more about how employability and the Graduate Attributes align to the institutional expectations and how Student Futures can support Schools going through the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/education-development-toolkit\/?page_id=5228&amp;preview=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">programme approval and revalidation process.<\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Introducing the Graduate Attributes<\/h2>\n<p>The Graduate Attributes are a set of transferable skills and capabilities that Cardiff University has developed in partnership with students, academics and employers. These attributes are intended to be a golden thread running through every student\u2019s time at Cardiff and can be developed through their studies and via extra-curricular opportunities in their School, and across the wider university. What we can say with some certainty is that undertaking a university degree undoubtably helps graduates develop essential skills that will equip them for success in the future. The challenge often lies in students\u2019 recognition and articulation of their skills, which is where extracting and surfacing the employability value of degrees, authentic assessments that mirror the working world and opportunities for interaction with employers (either extracurricular work experience or embedded in the curriculum), can help.    <\/blockquote>\n    <figcaption class=\"quote-author\">\n    \n                        AGCAS, What do Graduates Do? Guide 2023<cite  class=\"quote-source\"><\/cite>\n                   \n\n    <\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Embedding the Graduate Attributes into the student experience provides opportunities to develop and enhance the necessary skills and attributes highly sought after by employers. Surfacing the Graduate Attributes will enable the student to identify, apply and discuss these with increased confidence during the recruitment process.<\/p>\n<p>The Graduate Attributes will also help to achieve one of our strategic priorities \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.cardiff.ac.uk\/staff\/about-us\/strategy-and-improvements\/our-strategy\/cardiff-university-to-2035-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Co-creating futures<\/a>\u2019, where the University commits to offering:<br \/>\n\n\n<figure class=\"quote  \">\n          \n    \n    <blockquote class=\"quote-body\">\n      Flexible, tailored, lifelong learning to our students that gives them choices, agency and a voice, and provide future-proofed knowledge and skills that they can apply in the real world to fulfil their career aspirations. These Maps are developed on a website tailored to your programme and designed to explicitly highlight to students how they can develop each attribute via curricular and extracurricular
