‘Beyond Bilingualism – the heritage industry and the Welsh language’ – Dr Dylan Foster Evans

12/12/2017, 17:15 - 18:15

The Welsh language is a part of the heritage of Wales, and is also a medium through which that heritage is presented and interpreted. So far, however, relatively little attention has been given to the place of Welsh in the ‘heritage industry’, beyond the need to ensure the bilingual interpretation of heritage to the public. What opportunities are there to develop Welsh in this context? Should an alternative be sought to parallel bilingualism? And how can the Welsh language be developed as a tourist ‘attraction’ in its own right?

The seminar will be followed by the launch of Llên Cymru with wine and mince pies in room 1.69.
