Executive Education Breakfast Briefing – The Business Benefits of the Living Wage
09/11/2017, 8:00 - 9:30
The Living Wage is an independently calculated rate of pay, designed to provide a modest but decent standard of living for those in low-income employment. More than 3000 UK employers, employing 1.5M workers, have signed up to the Living Wage, including many of the leading brands of British business. IKEA, ITV, Majestic Wine, the Welsh Government and Cardiff University all pay the Living Wage.
This Business Breakfast will examine why employers choose to pay the Living Wage and the benefits that can result for both businesses and their employees. It will feature presentations from Cardiff Council and law-firm, Darwin Gray, both committed Living Wage Employers, together with original research on the Living Wage from Cardiff Business School which provides an update on the major report, The Living Wage – Employer Experience, published earlier this year.
The session will end by considering what can be done to persuade more employers to sign up to the standard, to make Wales a Living Wage economy.
Confirmed speakers are –
- Edmund Heery, Professor of Employment Relations, Cardiff Business School
- John Paxton, Service Procurement, Cardiff City Council
- Damian Phillips, Partner, Darwin Gray LLP
- Jayne Sadgrove, Chief Operating Officer Cardiff University and Living Wage Commission
