{"id":16,"date":"2013-09-24T14:20:12","date_gmt":"2013-09-24T14:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devwordpress.cf.ac.uk\/medow\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2014-11-03T11:03:38","modified_gmt":"2014-11-03T11:03:38","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.cardiff.ac.uk\/medow\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #557896\"><strong>MEDOW&#8217;s objectives are to find comprehensive solutions to the key techniques of DC grids for integrating renewable power and to remove the barriers to the interconnection of AC and DC grid<\/strong><strong>s.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #557896\"><strong>Renewable power, particularly offshore wind power, will be a major element of European and other countries&#8217; transition to meet their energy demands while reducing carbon emissions. HVDC will be the key technology for integrating offshore wind power into the onshore AC grids and for interconnecting AC grids across Europe with the aim of creating an offshore &#8216;supergrid&#8217;.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>MEDOW researchers will study DC power flow, DC relaying protection, steady state operation, dynamic stability, fault-ride through capability, and impacts of DC grids on the operation of AC grids and power market.
