DECIPHer Management Board Meeting

7 November 2014

Today I attended and chaired the DECIPHer Management Board. DECIPHer stands for Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions for Public Health Improvement.  It is a strategic partnership between Cardiff, Bristol and Swansea universities.  Its research focusses on three key areas relating to the health of young people: tobacco, alcohol and drugs; obesity, physical activity and diet; and mental health and wellbeing. Its work couldn’t be more exciting and relevant to the society we live in.

The Centre is a UKCRC (UK Clinical Research Collaboration) funded for 10 years until 2019. Three Cardiff Schools are involved in this trans-disciplinary approach – Social Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry.  It has strong engagement with policy, practice and public user communities.  Much of the meeting was spent looking at the track record of the Centre and the embarrassment of riches it provides, far too numerous to list here but take a look at their website for more information. I left the meeting feeling invigorated, sometimes we need reminding about the wonderful work that goes on under our nose.
