Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index results for 2015 were released this week. It was immensely gratifying to see that Cardiff University again features, this time in 24th place compared to 52nd in 2014 (quite a leap up the rankings). There’s only one university in the top 20 and then Cardiff is the second highest ranked university.
We were all delighted in December with our extraordinary REF result, putting us as the 5th university in the UK for research quality and 2nd for impact (sorry, I know you all know this but I don’t like to miss an opportunity to reinforce!). However, it is just as important for us to continue to make progress in areas such as equality and diversity. Last September we were one of only six UK universities to receive full marks in Stonewall’s Gay by Degree guide which ranked 158 UK universities on how gay-friendly and how well they support the LGB student community. It’s brilliant that we feature so prominently in these surveys in relation to both our students and our staff.
