• It was noted that Professor Baxter and Professor Thomas had been involved in the annual institutional review meeting with MRC representatives.
• It was noted that the Water University Research Institute had been awarded a NERC DTP.
• The success of the Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon was noted and that Team Cardiff had raised £60K to date.
• It was noted that the Council conference had appeared to have been well received with Mr Williams’ presentation on the University’s financial position going forward welcomed.
• UEB received and discussed the latest draft of the Senior Staff Conference.
• UEB received an update on the University’s guarantor scheme. It was agreed that the scheme should continue and be published more widely on the intranet to increase student engagement.
• UEB received the University Research Institutes (URI) annual report. A number of comments were received and it was agreed that Mr Williams would liaise with Professor Thomas and Strategic Planning to ensure clarity in the paper and the report would return to UEB in November 2017.
• UEB received the draft Senate agenda for note.
