The new and improved Core|Portal has been launched. (http://pobl.cardiff.ac.uk)

Full details are available on the Cardiff People Website however if you have any concerns or specific queries, please contact a member of the HR team.

Leave

All staff should now be booking annual leave via Core|Portal.

What are the advantages?
Core| Portal allows staff to request leave electronically for approval by their line manager, view previous leave records and see remaining balances at a glance. Line managers can review leave requests from their staff, view a team calendar (which shows all staff development and training provision and leave commitments within a team) and approve requests for both leave and training on-line. They will also be able to view current balances for team members to ensure staff are taking their quota of leave in a timely and planned manner.

Leave

Can I cancel leave online?

Yes, you can cancel leave at any point through Core|Portal. Just click on the cog to the right of the booked leave and select ‘Cancel request’

Staff Development & Training

Core|Portal now provides you with a way to search for staff development /training courses then request a place online.  In many cases staff will be able to opt to join a waiting list should available dates be inconvenient or if the programme is full.

What are the advantages?
Initially, an employees history will comprise completed courses provided by Human Resources such as the Staff Development Programme, The Cardiff Researcher Programme, the Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (PCUTL) and training provided by Occupational Safety, Health and Environment. However, as Core becomes the primary database for administering learning and development activities across the University, other sources of development will form part of an employee’s development history in future.

T

Using an on-line ”dashboard” line managers will be able to review and action staff development and training requests or book members of their team directly onto a course.  They can also review staff development and training histories to identify development needs within their team.
