Introducing the International office
The International Office is here to support Schools and Colleges on meeting the Internationalisation objectives of the Way Forward strategy. A lot has changed over the last 12 months, so this is a good opportunity to introduce what we do and where we can help. Our team is keen to provide support and guidance to our School colleagues where needed, so please let us know where we can help.

GO

Global Opportunities (GOC)
The student facing GOC office, located on Park Place, supports academic Schools in meeting the Way Forward Outward Mobility targets. We work with colleagues across the University to develop, support and promote opportunities for undergraduate students to benefit from an international experience during their time at Cardiff University. We also provide support for incoming Study Abroad and Erasmus+ students from our partner universities and promote Erasmus+ staff mobility opportunities. In summer 2014 students from across the University went overseas for the first time. GOC organised short term volunteering, internship and study placements to a number of destinations worldwide including China, USA, India, Hong Kong and Spain.

Please visit our website to find out more, including information on all the funding available to support student and staff mobility:  www.cardiff.ac.uk/globalopportunities

Colleagues from the Global Opportunity Centre would welcome the opportunity to visit Colleges, academic Schools and Departments to provide further information about the Centre and the ways in which our services can support the development and promotion of activities. Please contact us at globalopportunities@cardiff.ac.uk

LEUVENLIBRARY

International & European Partnerships
Our Partnership team are the first port of call for Schools and individuals who wish to develop collaborations with universities overseas. The team supports Schools and Colleges in developing strategic relationships with partner institutions for a range of collaborative activities. Over the last 12 months more than 40 new partnerships have been setup across the institution covering activity from research collaborations, student exchanges and student recruitment to in country delivery, including the University’s first Strategic Partnership with KU Leuven.

If you would like more information on partnership development or support please contact Beth Caines at cainesb5@cardiff.ac.uk or 76448.

International Recruitment
The University is home to over 3,700 international students from across the world. We already have a strong profile in a number of countries including China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Oman, Saudi Arabia, India, USA, Kenya and Brunei. However our team of Country Managers is working hard to engage in a range of other markets to extend the University’s profile, impacting on recruitment as well as our ability to engage more broadly. In 2014 the International Office visited nearly 40 countries, including for the first time Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Indonesia, Philippines, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon. As country experts we can provide market intelligence to support all aspects of your international engagement, including information on local qualifications or overseas institutions or assistance with following up with contacts in country, or offering suggestions on how to engage in market.

Your College contacts are your first port of call for advice, and will put you in touch with the relevant country manager where required. The International Office also runs IRIS to support admissions tutors with information to make informed decisions on international applications. We welcome feedback to help us continue to improve this service.

India and China offices
In early 2014 the University opened overseas offices in Delhi, Beijing and Hangzhou to provide additional expertise and support to Schools and Colleges in markets which have been identified as high priority for the University. So far the China and India teams have supported in the development of new and existing partnerships and have played a key function in allowing the University to increase its recruitment activity. Staff from these offices met a range of University colleagues during a recent visit to Cardiff in December 2014 and can be contacted easily should you want to engage their support.
