We are proud to have a long and distinguished history of contributing to musical life in South Wales. Music has been a subject of study at Cardiff since the (then) University College was founded in 1883 and it is believed that an orchestra was established soon afterwards.
We offer students a range of exciting performance opportunities. For instance, this year the Orchestra was privileged to perform two Debussy world premieres at Cardiff’s world-leading St David’s Hall, as well as a Jolivet UK premiere. That particular concert was part of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s major City of Light: Paris 1900-1950 festival.
Membership of the Symphony Orchestra is mainly of students from the Cardiff University School of Music, but students and staff from across the University are welcome to audition.
