Shunqi Pan


spanProfessor Shunqi Pan obtained his BSc(Eng) and MSc(Eng) from Hohai University (Nanjing, China), and PhD from Heriot-Watt University. Prior to his current appointment, he worked in the Universities of Liverpool (1994-2006) and Plymouth (2006-2011).

Since 1994, his research has been focused on physical and numerical modelling of coastal & estuarine processes, particularly related to offshore sandbanks, inlet/lagoon systems, nearshore coastal defence structures, beach nourishment. In recent years, he has been involved in research on large-scale waves/tides/surge prediction under extreme conditions, resource characterisation for marine renewable energy and the impact of climate change on coasts and estuaries. Since 2000, he has been Principal Investigator or Co-investigator for 7 EPSRC grants, 2 NERC grants and 6 other grants funded by the RAEng, EU and regional research development agencies, secured more than £3.0 m research funding. He has published more than 120 papers in international journals and conferences, with Google Scholar h-index of 15 and over 1000 citations. He received the Halcrow Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in 2007.

He became the Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) in 2022 and currently he is a member of the EPSRC peer-review college, Associate Editor of Water Science and Engineering (WSE – 水科学与水工程) and Fronters of Marine Science (Coastal and Ocean Processes). Previously, he has served in the editorial board of the ICE Maritime Engineering Journal. He has strong international research collaborations and has been frequently invited to give lectures in China and Japan. He has acted as an external examiner for PhD candidates at UK and overseas universities, and a reviewer for the UK and overseas research councils, as well as a wide range of international journals.
