Fitzalan High School Visit – 18th March 2025
19 March 2025
On the 18th of March, the SHARE with Schools team attended Fitzalan and delivered our ‘Science in Archaeology’ workshop to four amazing groups of Year 7 students.
The Year 7 pupils were able to learn about isotopes and how we use them in archaeology to inform us about diet (carbon and nitrogen) and place of birth/migration (strontium and oxygen). They used their investigative skills to analyse isotopic data, alongside DNA and burial objects to determine which character they had and convince us why they were right.
We engaged with 98 pupils throughout the day, who all worked hard to develop their analytical, group and presenting skills. We also had some fantastic feedback from the pupils:
“My favourite part of today was being able to hold ancient artefacts”
“We enjoyed every bit, and we don’t think you could improve anything, it was amazing!”
Thank you to our volunteers Carmen, James, Joanna, and Pedro for helping provide four amazing sessions, and thank you to the staff at Fitzalan for welcoming us into their school.
