Project: Learning from Practice: A Comparative Case Study of Nature-Based Solutions for Coastal Protection in the UK and China
Dr Chao Liu, from First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), China, joined the group as an academic visitor from July 2026 for a period of 12 months, supported by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). His research is dedicated to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributing to the implementation of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), and he has been involved in Cumulative Pressure Impacts on Marine Ecosystems, Blue Carbon and Ocean Carbon Sinks, Coastal Zone Ecosystem Function Assessment, and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) related work for nearly a decade. During his visit. he is to document, analyze, and synthesize the design, performance, and management lessons from successful UK coastal NbS projects through methodical field visits and case study.
