The Information Literacy Framework is a guide to the information and digital literacy awareness, practices and skills which subject librarians can support at Cardiff University.
The Framework is intended to be used to guide Subject Librarians’ discussions with academic staff around the integration of information literacy in the curriculum and to aid curriculum and learning activity design. It includes suggested activities with some links to practical examples.
The Library also uses it as the basis for measuring the extent of the information literacy teaching we provide to taught course students.
The content is derived from the Digidol: Developing Digital Literacy Project’s Learning Literacies Development Framework and Coonan and Secker’s A New Curriculum for Information Literacy.
The Framework demonstrates how Subject Librarians can contribute to the development of learner’s awareness, skills and practices in the following areas:
- The Information Landscape
- Finding and Selecting
- Managing Information
- Producing and Communicating
- Developing/Enhancing Professional Identity
