Agustí Egea was born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. He received his BEng, MSc and PhD from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in 2008, 2010 and 2014 respectively. His PhD thesis is entitled “Multiterminal HVDC transmissions systems for offshore wind”.
In his PhD, he covered aspects related to MT-HVDC transmission systems for offshore wind including power management in case of AC contingency, the connection of VSCs to a weak grid, power flow control in a MT-HVDC and the experimental validation of the MT-HVDC voltage control schemes in an experimental platform. During his PhD he did two internships, one at KU Leuven (Belgium) and the second at Alstom Grid (Stafford, UK).
From 2008 until joining MEDOW, he has been with the CITCEA-UPC group. He collaborated in numerous projects with industry and public funded projects in the fields of wind energy and HVDC transmission.
He decided to apply for the ER position in CEPRI to have the chance to work in a leading HVDC research centre and, at the same time, to explore a millenarian culture!
Agustí is member of the IEEE and CIGRE. Also, he was a founder and first president of the PES chapter of the IEEE student branch of the UPC. He is member of the CIGRE working group B4-58 entitled “Devices for Load flow Control and Methodologies for Direct Voltage Control in a Meshed HVDC Grid”. He is member of the board of the Catalan Society of Technology
In his free time, Agustí enjoys cycling, travelling, reading and assembling construction sets.
