My SHARE with Schools Experience: Volunteer Blog Post – Charlotte Foster

19 March 2026

I had the opportunity to deliver the ‘Science in Archaeology’ workshop at Fitzalan High School this month. As someone who has always aspired to go into the teaching profession this was such a great opportunity to get first-hand experience of what working in a classroom with young people would be like. I was able to experience talking in front of the class, working with smaller groups and answering any questions the students may have.

As a student of Modern History and Politics is was unfamiliar with any of the content being delivered in the lessons but this should not put you off, all of the resources provided made delivering the session to the students enjoyable for both myself and the pupils.

It was so inspiring to see how the students engaged in the tasks that they were set, and the experience as a whole has motivated me to continue working towards my goal of teaching in the future.

SHARE with Schools provides students at Cardiff with opportunities to develop the vital skills and experience required with young people in order to apply for teaching which is often more difficult to obtain on an individual basis.

I would encourage anyone thinking about working with young children to volunteer for SHARE with Schools to build your confidence, learn valuable skills and enhance your employability.
