My SHARE with Schools Experience: Volunteer Blog Post – Ryan Born
20 February 2026
I spent this Valentine’s day courting my one true love, History, in a very exciting event at the Grangetown Careers Fair. The SHARE with Schools team led a presented a wonderful look back in time through Trelai Park, complete with artifacts, map activities, and a chance to become a true Bronze Age pottery expert!
The young people in attendance got to have a hands-on look at real artifacts uncovered right from under out feet in Cardiff as well as visualise how much the landscape around Trelai Park has changed over these past two centuries. I was so glad to see everyone (including some adventurous volunteers) having such a good time engaging with the activities and making some very ornate pottery. I must say that those doing the map activity were very diligent and very knowledgeable about the area in which they live, they all had the makings of first-class Historians.
A huge thank you to the event organisers as well as the lovely people that attended the event, it went better than I could ever have hoped and I hope it got people thinking about history in their local area. 10/10, best day ever.
