December 2013

Work Package 5: Network training events

8 of the ESRs attended the Winter 2013 network meeting in Cardiff.  For details of their training, see the event webpage.

A meeting of the Training Steering Committee took place.  Cardiff University is going to draft a Network Training Programme in Spring 2014.  The programme will outline plans for network-wide training events for the MEDOW fellows.  Researchers from outside the network will also be invited, when appropriate.

Work Package 6: Training of individual ESR/ER

A meeting of the Training Steering Committee took place.  ESRs’ draft PCDPs (which have already been peer reviewed by a member of the network) were reviewed and approved using the MEDOW PCDP Approval Process.

A process for monitoring and updating PCDPs has been drawn up.

Work Package 7: Dissemination and outreach activities

At this early stage of the project, we do not yet have any results to disseminate.

MEDOW has attended several wind power and HVDC events.  In addition, we held an outreach event for A-level students in Cardiff where the ESRs gave presentations on renewable energy, offshore wind and engineering opportunities. See our dissemination webpages.

Work Package 8: Network management

The MEDOW website has been launched and is updated regularly.

Two network-wide meetings have been organised in Cardiff (May and December 2013) (T8.2 and D8.2).  The planned schedule for future network meetings was discussed and agreed at the December meeting.  May’s meeting was a Kick-Off meeting.  The December meeting involved meetings of all committees, researcher training events and public outreach.

Recruitment of ESRs took place in summer 2013.  To date, 11 of 12 ESRs have been appointed.   Recruitment of ERs will take place at various stages in the project.

Membership of Supervisory Board, Training Steering Committee, Dissemination & IP Committee and Financial Management Committee has been confirmed and communicated to all partners.

A project handbook for fellows has been sent to all ESRs appointed so far along with the Grant Agreement and annexes.
