Cardiff Science Festival 16/02/2024
16 February 2024Today SHARE with Schools was at the Cardiff University ‘Be a Scientist!’ event as part of the Cardiff Science Festival. Held in the Sbark/Sparc building, the event saw researchers from across the university deliver a range of exciting activities showcasing the amazing variety of things that scientists do.
We talked to visitors about how archaeologists often use science to find out about the past. People learned about how we can use XRF (X-ray fluorescence) to find out what pigments were used in ancient art. They used pottery rim charts to estimate the size of vessels from small fragments, and they had a go at working out past diets through stable isotope analysis.
A huge thank you to the organisers of the event, and to our volunteers Paige, Molly, Izzy, Charlotte, and Cecil for helping out!
