The teaching cycle - design deliver assess evaluate

Figure: The Teaching Cycle

This theme is linked to the PSF 2024 in consideration of A3: assess and give feedback for learning, V1: Respecting individual learners and groups of learners, and V2: promoting engagement in learning and equity of opportunity, K1 how learners learn, and the overall requirements for demonstration of ‘Effective and inclusive practice’.

It supports the Cardiff University Strategy ‘Our Future, Together’ in supporting ‘an excellent educational experience for students of all backgrounds’ and the strategic priority of Culture, Cynefin and Community.

Structure

The first section considers evaluation principles at a Programme, Module and Session level, Next, collaboration and co-construction with students, colleagues or outside agencies, addressing the wider context of higher education is presented. Section 3 covers student engagement, exploring the formal and informal evaluation processes of the university. Finally, the Learning Design section supports you to reflect and evaluate on your pedagogy using the six pillars of Learning Design.

Further Learning

You will also find the themes that should underpin successful evaluation and collaboration (inclusivity, employability and sustainability) in the first section of the toolkit

For Cardiff University staff: you can develop your understanding of evaluation and collaboration, by engaging with our related workshops, which are listed on the CPD Programme intranet page. These workshops are available asynchronously, to take in your own time, and can be followed by a live workshop (with enough demand), a 1:1 meeting with the lead, or a bespoke workshop for your team or School to discuss application to your practice. Find out more on the Cardiff LTA CPD page.
