Alejandro is from Barcelona and is working at Elia System Operator in Brussels. He has a MSc in Energy Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya where he specialised in operation, control and optimization of meshed DC systems.
His current areas of research interest include the operation and control of DC grids, HVDC and FACTS systems and the integration of renewable generation into the power system.
Alejandro applied to work in the MEDOW network because of his enthusiasm to be part of a research project aiming to overcome long-standing barriers to the interconnection of AC and DC grids. He is keen to contribute to the development of technology which could enable large-scale integration of renewables into the power system and thus change the way in which we understand energy generation and supply models.
In his MEDOW research project, he will deal with some of the current challenges surrounding the integration of AC and DC systems such as the provision of ancillary services by the multi-terminal DC system.
In his spare time. Alejandro enjoys running long-distance races and hiking.
