The Vaughan Association has up till now operated on an informal basis. However, it has recently been agreed that the existing organisation should be replaced by a more formal body which has charitable status under, and which will operate in accordance with, the laws of England and Wales.
To that end, a new member based association with charitable status was formed on 7 September 2026. The three trustees and initial members of the new charity are: Helen Wilcox, Simon Jackson and Tom Wethered.
The principal purposes of the new charity, which is also named “The Vaughan Association”, are to continue to hold a Colloquium and to publish Scintilla, in each case on an annual basis.
The new charity will remain dormant until it has been registered with the Charity Commission and also recognised by HMRC for tax purposes. At that point, it will take over the assets (net of any liabilities) of the existing association and open its membership to all those who may be interested in joining.
